I've really enjoyed learning about situational leadership and they way Blanchard sets his example where good leaders tailor their behavior to certain situations. You have to use both directive and supportive types of leadership styles in order to be an effective leader. The four different approaches of situational leadership are: delegating, supporting, coaching, and directing.
Recently at my work, we've had a lot of turnover and I've had to train a lot of new employees so I've really had to step into a leadership position to help everyone out. It's been a challenge since I just started a few months ago myself, but it's been very rewarding. My front office manager has started training binders for every agent that we can go off of and they can study from which really helps us out. However they are only guidelines and I have to put my own spin on things to really make sure they are learning everything. In that way we definitely "match" because he does give us guidance but still let's us do our own thing and trust us that we will get the job done, and do it well.

I'm a very supportive type of leader and always encourage and positively reinforce the new employees when they are doing well. Since we have 27 different room types on a 14 acre property, it can get quite challenging at times. I started in March so I know just how difficult and frustrating it can be at such a fast pace.
My manager really works with us and takes extra time for those who aren't picking it up as fast as the others and will have a more directive leadership style with the way he trains them to really try and make it easier for them to understand. He also isn't afraid to say what's on his mind and make sure things get done when he wants them done, which is very admirable. He can wear multiple different hats in the way he presents himself and I think has been a great example of a good situational leader.
