Application to Self: Welcome to New York

The past year I've had the opportunity to be on the board of one our student organizations, the Lodging Management Student Association (LMSA), as one of the planning director's. During this time I've had a lot of first hand experience on what it takes to be a good leader, and the qualities that I believe I possess already, and also need to work on.

LMSA does two annual trips a year, a spring and fall trip. Last semester I helped plan the spring trip to Monterey, Pebble Beach, and Santa Cruz. It was the first time that I had ever planned something like this so I definitely wanted to make sure it turned out well. Planning the trip required a lot of time, but also a lot of motivation and drive to make sure it was a successful trip. What I didn't know was how to delegate out tasks to other members of the board when I was in need of help with planning it and not trying to do it all myself. Every step of planning the trip to when we were on the trip was a learning experience for me. It was just myself, a couple other board members, and a couple students that went on the trip so we we really had to step up our game and present ourselves with confidence. It turned out to be a great success which I am very proud of and everyone had an enjoyable, educated travel experience with LMSA.

This semester I am currently working with Christina Jeffries on planning the annual New York trip and am so excited to be able to take what I have learned and am continuing to learn on planning, and executing an amazing trip for everyone involved!
